Dental Bridges Decision-Guide

10 SIMPLE STEPS toward making the right decision yourself. Just follow our DENTAL BRIDGES – DECISION GUIDE below:

  • Step 1 What is a dental bridge?

Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth. They consist of a set of crowns that are anchored to the natural teeth on either side of the gap left by the missing teeth. The gap is filled with artificial teeth that are fused between the two crowns.

Dental implants can also be used to anchor a bridge instead of a natural tooth in cases where there is no tooth present. Dental implants are artificial roots made of titanium metal that are inserted into the jawbone to hold the bridge in place.

  • Step 2 Am I a candidate?

If you have missing teeth you may be a candidate for a dental bridge. Since it is important that your bridge has a solid anchor, we’ll need to assess:

    • Your overall oral health
    • The health of teeth that will receive the abutment crowns
    • The health of your jawbone if your bridge will be supported by dental implants
  • Step 3 How do I get started?

The first step is to schedule a consultation so that we can decide together if a dental bridge is the best option for you.

From here, we can schedule additional appointments for the fabrication and installation of your dental bridge.

  • Step 4 Will I need an exam?

    Yes.

An exam and, in some cases, x-rays are important in determining if a dental bridge is the proper treatment for you.

  • Step 5 What happens next?

First, a preliminary impression is taken so that we can fit you with a temporary bridge or crowns while our dental technician is fabricating the permanent custom bridge. This is done to protect your teeth and gum tissues.
  • Step 6 Will my anchor teeth need to be altered?

    Yes.

    • They may need to be built up with a composite bonded material to ensure that there is a stable foundation for the bridge to be built upon.
    • If the base is already stable, the dentist will reduce some of the two anchoring teeth so that there is enough room for the bridge to fit well.
  • Step 7 How is the permanent bridge made?

The final step is taking an impression, or mould of the filed down teeth so that the permanent custom bridge can be fabricated.

In some cases a diode laser is used for tissue conditioning. A temporary bridge or 2 temporary crowns are installed to protect your teeth and gum tissues.

  • Step 9 What about cost?

Cost for the build-up, bridge and laser work starts at $4600.
